How it works

What it does in the body.

It mimics a gut hormone

Semaglutide works like GLP-1, a hormone your gut releases after eating that tells your brain you've had enough.²

Hunger turns down

For many people that means less hunger between meals and feeling full sooner, so eating less takes less effort.

Why the morning routine matters

The tablet is absorbed in your stomach, and food or drink gets in the way. That's why it's taken on an empty stomach with only a small sip of water.²

Your changes do the rest

It supports changes to how you eat and move rather than replacing them. When semaglutide stopped in trials, much of the weight tended to return.³

Missed a dose? Skip it and take your next tablet the following morning as usual. Don't take two at once.

You're an adult, 18 or over, living in the UK.
Your BMI is 30 or more, or 27 or more with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes.²
You're ready to use it alongside changes to how you eat and move.
A clinician judges it safe with your health history and medicines.

Not suitable if

Any one of these rules it out

You're pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
You have a history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2.
You're allergic to semaglutide or any of its ingredients.
You have certain conditions, such as severe gastrointestinal disease.

Most side effects are mild, happen early on or after a dose increase, and ease with time. Your clinician is there if they don't.²

These are rare, but need a doctor quickly.

Severe stomach pain that won't go away, sometimes reaching your back.
Pain in the upper right of your stomach, fever, or yellowing skin or eyes.
Vomiting or diarrhoea that stops you keeping fluids down.
Swelling of your face, lips or throat, or trouble breathing.

Planning a pregnancy? Stop semaglutide at least 2 months before trying to conceive, as it takes time to leave your body.²

Two injections, two tablets.

Figures are average weight loss at the highest dose in each medicine's main trial, alongside diet and activity. They come from different trials in different people, so they aren't a direct ranking. The one direct comparison: when tirzepatide (Mounjaro) and injected semaglutide (Wegovy) were tested head to head over 72 weeks, average weight loss was 20.2% and 13.7%.⁷

Wegovy, answered.

Is Manova a proper clinic, or a website?

Both. We’re a CQC-registered clinic that happens to live online. Every prescription is signed off by a registered clinician, not an algorithm.

Will it turn up in a branded box at my office?

No. Plain brown packaging, no Manova branding, no clue what’s inside. Sent to a home or pickup address, your call.

What if the clinician says no?

Then they say no, and you don’t get charged. They might suggest a safer alternative, more tests, or refer you back to your GP. We’d rather lose a customer than push the wrong pill.

Am I locked into a contract?

Nope. It’s month-to-month, cancel from your account in two clicks. No retention agent calling you back.

How is this different from going to my GP?

It isn’t, really. Same medicine, same regulator, same standards. We’re just faster to get hold of, and a lot less awkward to talk to about the things on this page.
